IFMA SV’s Diversity: Scholarships & Mentoring Program
At IFMA SV we have made a commitment to the industry we represent and the communities we live and work. The main goal of our Diversity: Scholarships & Mentoring Program is to reach out to the diverse cultures represented in our local communities and to widen horizons of our profession’s future stars by exposing them to the growing and thriving world of Facilities. By doing so, we hope to sustain our industry by providing education, resources and guidance to the future general of facility managers in Silicon Valley. As leaders in our profession, one of the greatest rewards is improving the lives and livelihoods of our next generation.
Scholarships: Supporting the diversity in our chapter and profession, we offer scholarships to students and young FM professionals to get involved, get excited and become further equipped for the careers they are entering. We help to cover the cost of tuition for our chapter’s FMP and SFP credential classes or tuition awards for those looking to pursue an industry degree program. Scholarship opportunities may also include one year of mentoring from our local industry leaders and one year of IFMA paid membership. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and other criteria including recommendations and career goals. The scholarship program is locally funded by donations from chapter members and firms as well as fundraising events throughout the year.
Mentoring Program: Among the benefits to our members and to scholarship recipients is to a formal mentoring program that focuses on career development and best practices in FM, provided by mentors who are local leaders in FM and our chapter. The mentoring program is designed to help facility managers with less experience explore career goals and/or enhance their skill set and knowledge of FM to achieve their greatest potential. It also offers students in our diverse communities exposure to the world of FM to assist them in pursuing a career in FM.
