The Community Outreach Committee was established to utilize the great resources of our IFMA-SV members focusing on programs that highlight the FM value and help our local communities. Here are some examples of how we give back:
SPRING – Rebuilding Together
Our biggest undertaking of the year where every aspect of our vast industry is utilized! Here’s a partial list of what we do: material sourcing (paint, furniture, lumber, flooring), maintenance (carpet removal, painting, cleaning, repair), space planning & design (furniture placement, code exiting), large-scale construction & installation (HVAC systems, new construction, structural reinforcement), and grounds landscaping (design, planting, debris cleanup)
The hard work always results in a project we are proud of for a very worthy cause.
In 2013 we are continuing work that we started at the 49ers Academy/Costano School in East Palo Alto. Work will take place April 26 and 17 (see our calendar for more details)
SUMMER – River Clean Up and Beach Clean Up:
In June or July each year we enthusiastically join with members of BOMA and CREW to clean up the Guadalupe River in downtown San Jose.
In August each year we continue a now 17 year tradition sponsored by Herman Miller – a beach cleanup or environmental restoration event, followed by a barbeque and bonfire – if this is giving-back sign me up!
FALL = FOOD!
The Community Outreach Committee joins Hotel de Zinc – an assembly line of sandwiches reaches across the Bay Area stopping at a different local shelter each year to feed those homeless and in need in our community.
Also Food Drive for Second Harvest Food Bank – usually at our October Chapter Meeting.
WINTER – Holiday Toy Drive
IFMA-SV works with local Fire Departments each holiday season to provide toys and necessities to children and teens in need. It’s a very gratifying experience especially when the firemen arrive at our Holiday Event each year to take away the HUGE haul!
