Chapter Meeting: How Facilities Supports the Biotech Industry

Paul Schaffer and Shane Bailey will present an overview of Roche, the world's largest oncology and Biotech Company, and parent company of Genentech, with a special focus on Roche Diagnostics, the world's largest diagnostic company. For over 5 years, Roche has been searching for property in Silicon Valley to build a campus for its employees and create a triangle between South San Francisco and Pleasanton. This facility will be an innovation center for Roche Diagnostics worldwide. In Dec 2017, they made the decision to enter a long-term lease on a parcel in Santa Clara at the intersection of Scott Blvd and Central Expressway. This campus consists of five empty buildings. They currently have about ~400 employees and are in the process of fitting out the campus to add an additional 500 employees by year's end.  They will focus on how the Site Services and Facilities teams help enable innovative science through partnership and collaboration and use of new technologies for security, collaboration spaces and building management systems.

What are the top 3 key points/takeaways from the presentation:

  • Use of new technology for security

  • Creating collaboration spaces

  • Use of Building Management Systems
