Get ready with your questions when you join us for this lively and informative IFMA Meeting featuring local legends Darrel D. Smith, Director of Central Services at Google, and Tom Wirth, Facilities Operations Manager at Facebook. The event will be moderated by our own IFMA-SV fellow chapter members Ferdinand Luis Jr., Workplace Services Manager at Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Cristina Avila-Renteria, Facilities Manager at Fenwick & West LLP.

The meeting will take place at the recently constructed Google REWS auditorium in Sunnyvale. Registration is sure to fill out quickly, as space is limited.

Darrell D. Smith
Director of Central Services @ Google

Darrell D. Smith has more than 20 years of experience in facility management, with a wide range of industry experience in technology, retail, data centers and manufacturing. He holds a Bachelor of Science in industrial technology from California Polytechnic State University, where he graduated cum laude and was featured on the President’s Honor List. Darrell is currently the director of Central Services for Google's Bay Area Portfolio in, California, USA. In this role he oversees a team that is responsible for the facility management, critical environments, planning and other facilities services at one of the most innovative companies in the world. Having spent his career at the intersection of real estate, big data and technology, Darrell believes in using technology as an enabler for driving data driven decisions.

Darrell has spoken at and keynoted several industry events anchored on technology and innovation, including Realcomm, the Maintenance and Reliability Conference, the Mainstream Conference in Australia, TechReady in New Zealand, the International Green Building Conference in Singapore, CoreNet Global and IFMA’s Facility Fusion Conference and Expo.

He previously served on the board of directors for the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Association for Facilities Engineering, has been a longtime advisor for RealComm.

Darrell has received several industry awards for his work in energy efficiency from groups such as CoreNet Global and Realcomm, and was selected as a Computerworld Honors Laureate.

Darrell joined IFMA in 2004. He is a member of the Silicon Valley Chapter of IFMA and lives in Morro Bay, California, USA, with his wife and three children.

 

Tom Wirth
Facilities Operations Manager @ Facebook

Tom Wirth is Facilities Operations Manager at Facebook. Prior to Facebook, Tom held progressively more senior Facilities positions at Apple, Cisco Systems, and Google. Tom has extensive background in the design and implementation of services and solutions in Facilities Operations and Services. Of particular interest to Tom is leveraging people, processes, and technology to deliver services that support the overall goals and objectives of global organizations. He leads a team of over 500!

Ferdinand Luis Jr.

Ferdinand Luis Jr. is a former United States Marine Corps and Operation: Iraqi Freedom veteran. After his enlistment, Ferdinand completed his Bachelor of Science in Hospitality, Tourism, and Event Management at San Jose State University.  After his initial career as an event coordinator at the San Jose Convention Center, he transitioned into facilities management in the higher educational field beginning at International Technological University.  Upon completing his Masters of Business Administration also at ITU, he became the Director of Facilities at Stanford’s Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts and the Anderson Collection Museums.  He recently departed Stanford and is now the Workplace Services Manager at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

 

Cristina Avila-Renteria, FMP, SFP

Facilities Manager at Fenwick & West LLP

Cristina has been an integral member of the Fenwick & West Facilities team since 2011. Fenwick has earned the reputation as a go-to law firm for growing companies that need strategic counsel to help tackle the challenging issues that arise when the law cannot keep up with their pace of innovation.

As a member of the Fenwick Facilities team, Cristina’s present role includes overseeing Building Operations and Maintenance, Move Project Management, involvement in Construction Project Management and Firm initiatives. Fenwick has offices in Mountain View, San Francisco, Seattle, New York and Shanghai. By working in unison with all departments, we strive for excellence and take great pride in attracting and retaining our people, meticulously maintaining our buildings, continuously re-defining our processes and investing in leading edge technology. The firm has received awards in several major sustainable practice categories including LEED, EnergyStar and was the first law firm certified by Santa Clara County as an environmentally sustainable “Green Business”.

Prior to joining Fenwick, Cristina’s expertise was in the IT Services Solutions arena at Milestone Technologies, Inc. As Business Development Manager, she focused on IT Relocations and Managed Service Solutions. At the onset of her career, Cristina held positions as Program Manager and Sr. Program Administrator with Arrow Capital, a small commercial finance company whom she was with for 10 years. Cristina has been an active member of IFMA for over 10 years and was the Silicon Valley Chapter of IFMA Membership Co-Chair from 2010-2012.  Cristina received her Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in General Business, from Santa Clara University.
